Some months ago I met in Barcelona the excellent Finnish trumpeter/composer Rickard Slotte, having the opportunity of playing together and get to know each other’s work. He asked me to do a remix of one of the acoustic jazz recordings of his Melomatic Orchestra and this is what I came up with.

I picked the tune “Cloud Surfing” and I sampled almost the entire recording as I liked how the live playing, the extended harmonic structure and solos kept the thing very organic and evolving.
I just had to design a beat that could complement the acoustic drums in an interesting way, play around with keys, filters, effects and add a little piano signature at the end.
